It is That Time of Year Again!

Okay.  Sometimes it helps me to simply sit down and write during times of extreme busyness and stress.  Somehow or other it satisfies my emotions when I express my feelings on paper/blog.  There are too many things going on in my life right now and too many responsibilities to feel like I have everything under control.  This is not the way I choose to live!  My ENTIRE house is a HUGE disaster!  P.l.e.a.s.e don't come and visit today!  ;o) Christmas decor is "decorating" the floor, the couches, and everywhere besides where it should be.  Toys are spread all throughout the mess! Then I walk into my youngest son's bedroom, only to find him sitting in the midst of a PILE of books!  Did I only say "PILE"?  I should say "MOUNTAIN!"  I hope no one trips and falls over the mess; we will have more stress!  ha! There are mounds of laundry to fold and yes, the important pieces of clothing are getting slim in our private drawers.  :0)  I have the washer going with more laundry ready for folding in an hour or so.  I have a HUGE project for school to complete in the next week; I need to work on the church Christmas program; our basement ~oh my!~ I won't even talk about that DUMP!  I want to have an open house for our church family in about two weeks with food ..........  Yep, it is Christmas time and the pressure is on!  I'm trying to stay focused on one.thing.at.a.time!  This is hard for me, since I see so many things that need to be done.  There are people to visit and phone calls to be made; church invitations to pass out and so much more.  In the middle of all this, we would like to sneak in a few fun family things to do during this Christmas season.  Oh, by the way, we need to purchase a new storm door for one of our front doors before real winter weather sets in.  Our doors desperately need painting.  My hubby started to clean up the backyard a couple weeks ago.  He made it as far as cutting down a tree that seemed to be taking over our yard.  The remnants of the tree have been lying on the ground surrounding the tree stump since that day.  Our cedar bushes/trees are getting quite overgrown.  They must be trimmed before real winter weather sets in.  The responsibilities are mounting, but I must remember to take one day at a time and make it useful for God!  Devotions and time with Him are priority!  If nothing else gets accomplished, I know the time I spend with Him is more important than everything else going on in my life.  I know He will help me through the busyness!  What would I do without my Savior?  I love Him so much!

Pictures Coming Soon

I have some new pictures to post, but lack the time and energy to upload them now.  We had an enjoyable Thanksgiving Day at my parent's house where we ate a delicious meal and played games with relatives.  Thanksgiving Day was also Joshua's fifth birthday this year.  He had a grand time celebrating with his two favorite cousins, McKenna and Dawson.  I will try to post pictures soon.

A Beautiful Day for Some Fun!

This week I have pushed myself to finish up my school tasks in order to enjoy at least one of the beautiful days God is giving us before cooler weather officially sets in.  Most of my work being complete, I grabbed Joshua for a fun few hours at a nearby park.  He enjoyed the playground area for a time, and then wanted to go on a walk through the forest.  I took my camera along to grab some photos while enjoying our day together.

Following our time at the park, we were going to get some food from a nearby restaurant, and take it back to the park for a picnic.  I asked him which food place sounded better:  McDonalds or Burger King.  (There is more restaurants in that area, but I didn't think he would be interested in the others.)  He said, "Wait, Mom, wait until we get up to the place then I'll tell you which one I want to go to."  I told him I couldn't just stop in the middle of the road, but he was going to have to let me know.  Well, he begged to go to Dairy Queen for ice cream, but that was out of the choices since he would only want ice cream, and that is not too wholesome for a lunch menu.  So, as we came upon the fast food joints, he immediately said he wanted to go to "that place with the red around it."  ha!  Arbys!!??  He has never wanted to go there!  He said there is steps in there and fish.  True!  So ... we wound up at Arby's for lunch.  By that time, he didn't want to go back to the park to eat, but settled on eating while watching the fish.  This was fine with me since both he and I were hot from our venture at the park.

Trying sooo hard to smile nice!  ha!

Ha!  So Typical!!

He LOVES his walking stick!  (Daddy taught him that!)

He didn't want to lay his beloved stick down for a good picture!

I LOVE those big brown eyes!  :-)

We had a nice time together away from home.  This does not happen very often, therefore, it seemed extra fun!

Fall Furnishings

Joshua Daniel
Mom's little dinosaur
He is in love with dinosaurs!
Fall is fleeting fast and I have failed to furnish our home with the normal fashionable Fall decor. As I sit and study day after day, I become so frustrated with all that I am not accomplishing. Before I know it, the day has drifted into evening, and night has arrived with still nothing done except for school assignments!  Does this make me feel good?  Yes and no!!!  Of course, I'm getting my school work done, but I have so many other things to tend that is often put on a back burner way. too. long!!

However, I have made up my mind; I'm heading out to the breezeway in the morning where my bins have been neatly stacked for a few days now!  I'm going to make a HUGE mess, and dig into those bins with a big smile on my face!  I LOVE FALL; the cool crisp air, the beautiful colors, the food, and did I mention cooler weather?  Ah, yes, my school assignments will be in the back of my mind for a few hours while I shape my home into leaves, candles, and pumpkins.  I'm sad it is only going to be donning it's autumn attire for about a month; but it certainly is better than not at all!  Although I don't exactly enjoy decorating my house for different seasons; I completely enjoy looking at it after it is up and the MESS is cleaned up and put away.  The house gets cleaned in the process which is a double blessing (it definitely could use it)!
My little helper tomorrow!  (Joshua a couple yrs. ago)
My helper about three years ago!
Go and enjoy your day tomorrow!  After all, it will be Friday!  I have a project ahead that has been invading my mind for weeks!  I'll be wildly dashing about the house trying to get it done before the man of the house arrives home from work!  :o)

The Storm after the Calm

"No news is good news." You've all heard that saying most likely. Well, I definitely feel like that now, after trying to write a post to update everyone a few days ago on the normal routine of the circumstances surrounding our present lives. The humdrum of our lives suddenly changed yesterday. Nathan woke up early feeling fine, fell back to sleep and woke up a couple of hours later with excruciating pain in the back of his left shoulder and radiating down his arm, as well as chest pain and difficulty breathing. He took one of his strong Ibruprofen
pills that he still had from his wisdom teeth extractions. I tried to get him into our family doctor, but there was not an opening until later in the afternoon. I knew he would not be able to deal with the pain for that long of a time, so I decided to take him to Urgent Care. By this time, his pain had let up some since he had taken the pill, but he was still having difficulty breathing. They checked him out, did a chest x-ray, and said everything looked okay and that he probably had some sort of muscle strain. So we headed back home. Later in the afternoon, that same pain hit him again about an hour and a half before he could take another pill to relieve the pain. He started begging for help and to take him to the ER. I hesitated, but quickly knew I had to take him since his breathing was difficult and his chest was hurting with every breath he took. I appreciate the help one can receive at the ER, but the wait is horrible!! Patience is definitely a virtue there, and you better not be dying! :o) After waiting for a few hours, we were f.i.n.a.l.l.y moved to a room. That was one step! Now more waiting! By this time, Nathan did have some relief from another Ibruprofen he had taken, but the pain was still there. He was nervous and I was nervous. We had no idea what was happening. At last, nurses came in with all the questions ~ routine questions, informational questions, scary questions such as, "Does anyone in your family have heart problems?" "Has anyone suddenly died for no reason?" Talking about scary .... yep, I was scared to death. He is only eighteen years old! A.T. L.A.S.T the doctor showed up!! He checked him over and ordered blood work and an EKG as well as pain medicine. More waiting ..... Nurses came and hooked up an I.V., took the blood samples, gave him pain medicine and administered the EKG. Now to wait for the results .... (2 hours or so). The doctor finally comes back in with the results of the EKG. He said, "Like I thought earlier, you have Pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining around the heart." He then went on to tell us that they may want to monitor him overnight and do an ultrasound of the heart in the morning. He would go and check with an internal medicine doctor. More waiting ..... At last, he returned to tell us that he did extra research and was quite certain that Nathan's complication is probably viral and should go away on its own with the help of medicine and he could go home. Most young men at such a young age usually only experiences Pericarditis in a viral form. However, the doctor said he needs to follow up with the family doctor to be sure he is improving. So, after more waiting ... and finally getting prescriptions ~ six of them ~ we headed to a Pharmacy which was not easy to find open at 9:30 at night. After problems getting one of the prescriptions, and stopping to pick up some food (we hadn't eaten since lunch) we headed for home. I was dreading the night, since I didn't know what to expect. Would Nate do okay with all these meds? Would he have another attack when the pain medicine starts to wear off? He has strict instructions not to lay down to rest, which he already discovered anyway. He could not breathe laying down. The ER doctor also told him that it is impossible to lay down with this condition. So, Nate slept in the recliner and I attempted to sleep on the couch. He wanted me near him, and I didn't want to leave him alone not knowing what to expect. Thank the Lord, the night went smoothly and an alarm was set for medicines to be taken. He has seemed much better today with no pain. In fact, he has not taken one of his pain medicines today at all! He has more than one, but at least both are not necessary.

Since this has happened, I have been told by a nurse that Pericarditis is sometimes caused by wisdom teeth extractions. This would make a lot of sense since he just had them pulled last Thursday. Whatever the cause, we are praying that he does not have anymore problems and that his heart is fine. The ER doctor did tell us that his heart looks healthy; it is not enlarged or anything like that.

Well, that is a long and detailed rundown of our "newsless" life that turned into a scary experience. Please remember Nathan in prayer. He has had a couple of scary physical incidents in the past few months with the large oral cyst that was removed and now this.

Just a few additional "news" items from our family with prayer requests:
  • Nathan will be starting college through the distance learning program at G.B.S. next week.
  • An installation service will be taking place this Sunday at the Voice of Victory Bible Methodist Church where my husband is currently pastoring. Bro. Sams will be conducting both services. Please pray that a good crowd will be present. We want to win the lost to Jesus.
  • Evangelyn will be starting Phlebotomy classes at a nearby college in January.
  • James' next writing assignment for Union Gospel Press is due at the beginning of October (I think) and he has been working long hours at his regular job. Please pray he will have time to get this completed.
We are leading very busy lives. At times we feel that we have too much on our plates. I know God has a purpose for all this, and we must trust in Him to see us through. He has never failed yet, and I know He never will.

~No New News~ (hardly)

I really don't have any exciting news to share; hence the reason behind the lack of posts. Nathan did have his three remaining wisdom teeth removed last week. We are thankful this is over and he is doing well at this point. An x-ray of the cyst area was taken, and there is still a large gap that has not filled in. The oral surgeon says it takes a while to grow, as he is hoping bone will fill in this area. So far, after three months, very little growth has taken place. Hopefully this changes in the future. I have no idea if anything will be done if the area remains empty. The big concern is that another cyst could form there. Nate will be seeing a Dermatologist in the future for the possibility of skin cancer. This was what our family doctor recommended since he did not seem to be too familiar with this sort of cancer at such a young age. He did check Nate over for any signs of the cancer, and says he appears healthy to him, but will need to be monitored in years to come by a Dermatologist.

Christianna and Evangelyn chose to go on a trip with a group from God's Bible School to New York City. They left Friday morning and are expecting to return tomorrow evening sometime. They have been enjoying many sights in the area which they have never experienced before.

Nothing else new comes to mind at this point. If I think of something else, I'll post again.

Some Updates

I just realized I have never given an update on Nathan's last dental visit with the results of the biopsy. The oral surgeon checked things out and Nathan seems to be healing nicely, but a hole still remains which is not expected to heal completely for three months or so. He has to carefully clean it out daily so there is no food residue trapped inside of it! Yuck! We were a little startled about the results of the biopsy, but we know God has everything under control. The type of cyst Nathan had can be a symptom of Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome, a topical skin cancer. The doctor sent a copy of the biopsy results to our family physician, and suggested that he see him in regard to this. I have an appointment set sometime in August when he will be checked for this cancerous condition. On a somewhat positive note, the doctor did say that of all the cancers, this is the one to get if you're going to get cancer since it can be treated and doesn't affect the liver, heart, lungs, and so forth. The oral surgeon said Nathan's shoulders, back, and temples need to be watched carefully for any signs of cancerous spots throughout his life. He also mentioned that often a person who has this sort of cancer has extra ribs and a bigger forehead (which Nate does not have). Anyway, please remember this in prayer when you think of us.

On another note, James has recently consented to being the pastor of a little country church about ten miles from our home. He has felt that God would have him pastor again for the past couple of years or so, but with older children it is difficult to suddenly pack your bags and move when they have jobs and commitments. This opportunity opened up and we feel it is God's way of showing us where He wants us. Please pray for us as we follow God's leadership in shepherding this little flock and gaining new souls for Him at Voice of Victory Bible Methodist Church in Waynesfield, Ohio. We want to lead lost souls to the One who can provide forgiveness, peace, joy, and hope. Our first service is this evening's Prayermeeting service. We are excited about what God has in store for the little church there!

Last week was an enjoyable week for our family to get away from the normal routine of life. We spent our time in the northern part of lower Michigan, as well as the Upper Peninsula. This area of America definitely shows God's beautiful handiwork. I love it up there, and so does the family. Enjoy the pictures and take a trip there sometime. You will not be disappointed! (Sorry the pictures are so mixed up, but that is how they uploaded.)
